Delta Court Sacks Coronated Isoko Community Monarch

A High Court sitting at Otu-Jeremi in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, presided by Hon Justice T.O Uloho, has sacked the recently traditional ruler of Iyede kingdom in Isoko North Local Government Area, for allegedly disobeying court restraining injunction.

The court had in a suit no:HCZ/27/2020, sealed the palace of Iyede kingdom pending the determination of the substantive kingship suit before it.

The court granted an interim order restraining the recognition of the purported installed monarch pending the hearing of the motion brought by one of the contestants to the throne, Archbishop Akpode Joshua on 14 April 2025.

And subsequently, on 20 June 2025, the court ruled in favour of the claimants, declaring the installation of the monarch name (with held) null and void, restraining the Delta State Government from recognizing him.

The court ordered the sealing of the Iyede palace until the determination of the kingship suit.

The court noted that the installation of the monarch as the Ovie of Iyede kingdom either by himself or by some persons was an affront to the authority and sanctity to the court as but cannot fold its arms and watch its orders being trampled upon.

“The court can not condone the disrespectful act of the installed, a member of one of the ruling family and as such the installation of the monarch whether self installed or installed by any other person or persons shall be and it is hereby set aside.”
